Welcome to Astley Green Colliery Museum's Poets' Corner A number of Lancastrian miners, like miners from elsewhere, were taken to writing verse and poems. Many of their poems were autobiographical and a valuable comment on the society in which they lived.

To ensure that these important works are not lost to time, Astley Green Colliery Museum are collecting all such works, not to be put away and forgotten but to be made available to all to read.

This project was initiated when Ann Evans, the daughter of Frank Seddon, sent a collection of his poems to the museum after seeing the appeal for memories of life in the Lancashire coalfield. Frank Seddon began work at the Cleworth Hall Colliery in Tyldesley when he was only fourteen, having left school the day before.

Later Frank worked at the Mosley Common Colliery and continued there until the colliery began running down in the 1960s.
